NFDC’s Film Bazaar 2019 ends with awards for Pedro, Swizerland, Pinki Elli?

The 13th edition of the National Film Development Corporation's (NFDC) Film Bazaar ended with awards handed out independent film projects Pedro, Swizerland, Pinki Elli?, along with Laila Aur Satt Geet, Gamak Ghar, and rk/rkay which were selected in the Film Bazaar Recommends and the Work-in-Progress sections.

Natesh Hedge's Pedro and Ajitpal Singh's Swizerland won the Prasad Lab DI award as well as the Moviebuff Appreciation Award from the Work-In-Progress (WIP) Lab films. The mentors of the Lab, producers Philippa Campbell, Olivia Stewart, film critic Derek Malcolm, artistic director of PYIFF, Pingyao Marco Mueller, and editors Lizi Gelber and Jacques Comets, decided the honours.

Prithvi Konanur's Pinki Elli? (Where Is Pinki?) won the Prasad Lab DI award + Moviebuff Appreciation award from the Film Bazaar recommends section. Hong Kong International Film Festival programmer Kiki Fung, artistic director of FilmColumbia Laurence Kardish, and Sydney Film Festival festival director Nashen Moodley were the other members on the jury.

The aforementioned awardees will receive free Digital Intermediate (DI) for their film by Prasad Labs, two versions of DCI DCP free for a movie by Qube, Rs2 lakh worth of trailer promotions at QUBE cinema theatres (max 300 theatres) for a movie, and a Qube Wire account worth of $500, which can be redeemed during Qube Wire deliveries.

Besides the award winners, the remaining three films in the WIP will also get a 50% discount on DI from Prasad Labs.

Pushpendra Singh's Laila Aur Satt Geet (The Shepherdess And The Seven Songs) won the VKAAO WIP Lab Award, accompanied by a certificate from VKAAO and a free theatrical distribution deal with PVR Cinemas. The mentors of the WIP Lab were the jury members for this selection as well.
 
The VKAAO FBR Awards, chosen by an audience vote based on FBR Pitch and views in the Viewing Room, went to Achal Mishra's Gamak Ghar in the completed films by a debut director category, and rk/rkay by Rajat Kapoor in the completed films by a non-debut director category. Both films win a certificate from VKAAO and will receive a 75% discount on theatrical distribution from PVR.

TCA Kalyana, the managing director of NFDC said of the 13th edition and its growing role in nurturing independent film talent, "Film Bazaar is a multilingual, multi-national film market that gives a platform to diverse voices from across the region. This is clear from the fact that 268 projects across 30+ languages at various stages of progress were present in the market under its different sections."

Around 1,116 delegates from 36 countries participated in this year's edition.
