The Anees Bazmee comedy Pagalpanti (2019) has opened lower than last week’s masala film, Marjaavaan (2019). According to figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com, the multi-starrer featuring John Abraham and Anil Kapoor earned only Rs19.50 crore on its opening weekend. In comparison, Marjaavaan's first weekend numbers were a decent Rs23.75 crore nett.
Pagalpanti made only Rs5 crore on opening day and had a low Saturday with Rs6.25 crore, and improved on Sunday with Rs8.25 crore. Meanwhile, the Hollywood animated film, Frozen 2 (2019), broke a record with its earnings of Rs3.50 on Friday, becoming one the best openings for an animated film in India. In contrast, the first film, Frozen (2013), earned around Rs3 crore in its entire five-week run in India. The sequel's opening weekend numbers stand at Rs18.25 crore.
Marjaavaan’s business continued its downward spiral as it only made Rs4.40 crore on its second weekend. The Milap Zaveri film has earned a little over Rs42 crore so far, just over the cost of its Rs40 budget. With Pagalpanti and Frozen 2 taking up most of the screens this weekend, its growth over the weekend was hampered.
The other box office champions, Bala (2019) continued their good runs. The Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer crossed over the Rs100 crore mark with Rs102 crore, as it made Rs7 crore on its third weekend.
