The Sidharth Malhotra-Tara Sutaria film is gaining diminishing returns, but endured an average opening week.
Box office: Marjaavaan hits Rs36.75 crore in first week, Bala continues its run to Rs95.33 crore

Despite the poor reviews, Milap Zaveri's Marjaavaan (2019) continued to hold steady in its first week. According to numbers from BoxOfficeIndia.com, the film finished with Rs36.75 crore at the end of Thursday. At the other end, Ayushmann Khurrana-led Bala (2019) continued its march towards Rs100 crore, and has notched up Rs95.33 crore in its second week.
Marjaavaan had held steady on the weekend, and even managed to add Rs4 crore on Monday. According to trade sources, the film is made at a budget of Rs40 crore. This means that the film's collection at the end of its first week, Rs36.75 crore, takes it closer to par. However, the film has been receiving declining returns.
After Rs4 crore on Monday, the film posted Rs3.50 crore on Tuesday, Rs3 crore on Wednesday, and Rs2.50 crore on Thursday. According to BoxOfficeIndia.com, the film has posted well in mass centres across UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, but might see a further drop in the coming weekend.
The other release from last week, Motichoor Chaknachoor (2019) ended its first week with Rs2 crore. The film is definitely unlikely to survive past its first week.
Ayushmann Khurrana's Bala seems to have no such problems. The film might have gone under the radar in its second week, but it still managed to take its count up to Rs95.33 crores. After finishing Monday with Rs89.75 crore approx, the film has added Rs5.58 crore to its collection. The Amar Kaushik film continues Khurrana's run after Dream Girl (2019) earlier this year.
While it has touched the Rs200 crore mark, Akshay Kumar-led ensemble comedy Housefull4 only managed Rs4 crore on its fourth week. According to number counters at BoxOfficeIndia.com, the film has topped the collections of all Akshay Kumar films so far. The run might not last into the next week with Pagalpanti (2019) set to arrive as a competing comedy.
