The reincarnation comedy Housefull 4 (2019) continues to dominate at the box office despite the negative reviews it has received. The Farhad Samji film earned Rs8 crore on its eighth day in theatres, according to numbers shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com. Its total collection now stands at Rs145 crore.
The multi-starrer film, whose budget is estimated at Rs170 crore, still has a long way to go before it can be declared a hit, but it is expected to continue its good run in the coming week and become Akshay Kumar's highest grossing film. After Shahid Kapoor's Kabir Singh (2019) earlier this year, Housefull 4 has recorded the best numbers for a Hindi film's second Friday.
Meanwhile, the only Hindi film to be released yesterday, another comedy, Ujda Chaman, earned just Rs1.75 crore nett on its opening day. Figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com show that the Sunny Singh Nijjar-starrer did better than the Diwali releases Made In China (2019) and Saand Ki Aankh (2019) on their second Friday. Moreover, Abhishek Pathak's comedy has been made at a low budget of about Rs7 crore, plus promotions and advertising, so it is unlikely to prove a bad bet for the producers.
Rajkummar Rao's comedy Made In China made Rs10.25 crore nett in its first week and only Rs15 lakh on its second Friday. Saand Ki Aankh, starring Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar, was only marginally better. It made Rs11.90 crore nett in its first week and Rs1.15 crore on its second Friday. Both films were made on a budget of around Rs30 crore.
This week's Hollywood release, Terminator: Dark Fate, starring senior citizens Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger, performed reasonably well with Rs2.75 crore nett on opening day.
