Ayushmann Khurrana’s latest comedy Bala (2019) has had a good first week at the domestic box office. The Amar Kaushik film has collected Rs69.25 crore nett, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.

The film was expected to open well on the first weekend, thanks to the popularity of its star, and that is exactly what happened, with Bala racking up Rs42.25 nett in the first three days.

The film also held up well on Monday and Tuesday. While collections did drop on Wednesday, it wasn’t cause for concern.

Also starring Bhumi Pednekar and Yami Gautam, Bala tells the story of a prematurely balding man and the effect on his psyche.

The box-office journey of Bala has been similar to Khurrana’s last film Dream Girl (2019), which was released in September. Directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, the film had made Rs43.22 crore nett on the first weekend and Rs70.12 crore in the first week. The numbers are almost similar to Bala's.

The only difference is that the budget of Bala is somewhat higher than Dream Girl at around Rs40-45 crore. But the film has easily gone past that figure and is expected to earn well on its second weekend despite the release of Milap Zaveri’s Marjaavaan (2019).
