With conflicting information about the condition of singer Lata Mangeshkar, her family has issued an official statement to update fans and well-wishers of her status. They have stated, “Lata di is stable and much better. Thank you very much for your prayers. We are awaiting her to be at her best so she can be home soon. Thank you for being with us and respecting our privacy.”

The singer was taken to Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai on Monday, 11 November, after she complained of breathing trouble caused by chest congestion. She was expected to be discharged and sent home yesterday but has been kept at the hospital for further observation, considering her age.

There were several reports that indicated that the singer, often referred to the Nightingale of India, was quite critical. The singer's doctor, Pratit Samdani had told the daily Mumbai Mirror that she was on life support but "but her condition is slowly improving, but she is still critical."

The Dadasaheb Phalke award honoree last sang for Jail (2009) for the composer duo Shaarib-Toshi. Earlier this year, she sang for the non-film song 'Saugaundh Mujhe Iss Mitti Ki' which paid tribute to the Indian Army.
