There were reports last evening about legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar being discharged from the Breach Candy hospital in south Mumbai where she was admitted yesterday for chest congestion. However, it is now learnt that she is still at the hospital, though her condition is improving, according to the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS).

“Lataji is stable. Her parameters are good. Honestly speaking, she has fought so well that she is coming out of this setback. Being a singer, her lung capacity has pulled her through. Truly a fighter. We will update everyone when Lataji gets discharged and comes home,” a family member told the news agency.

There was a scare among Mangeshkar fans on social media yesterday after she was admitted, reportedly with breathing trouble. Hence, the singer’s team released a statement to share her actual condition. “Lata Mangeshkarji had a viral chest congestion. Keeping her age in mind, as a precautionary measure, she has checked in to Breach Candy hospital to ensure antibiotics on time to prevent any more infection. She is stable and recovering,” said the statement.

The Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, was bestowed upon Mangeshkar in 2001 for her contribution to the field of music. She was also conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke award in 1989.
