Ranveer Singh leaves no stone unturned in playing his characters to the T. The actor will next be seen in director Kabir Khan’s '83 where he will essay the role of legendary cricketer Kapil Dev.
After the boot camp in Dharamshala, Singh will spend 10 days living and training with the man himself in Delhi. “I’m looking forward to spending more time with Kapil sir. He is kind, generous, warm and funny. I had a memorable two days with him in Dharamshala," Singh said in a statement.
“I’m going to spend more time with him in Delhi to learn more about him. It’s a first of its kind exercise in my acting process where I’ll be studying the man himself in the flesh for my on-screen portrayal of him. I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to learn about life from a true legend,” added Singh.
Over the years, Singh has shown his versatility playing diverse characters such as Peshwa Bajirao in Bajirao Mastani (2015), the conniving, mercurial antagonist Alauddin Khilji in Padmaavat (2018) and recently, street rapper Murad Shaikh in Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy (2019).
Recently, Singh had posted a picture of all the characters he has played so far on Instagram.
While preparing to play Alauddin Khilji in Padmaavat, Singh read about tyrants and shut himself from the world for three months, confining himself to a dark room. For Gully Boy, he met a lot of street rappers from Dharavi, jammed with them, to understand their body language and state of mind.
Produced by Reliance Entertainment, '83 is based on the Indian cricket team’s historic triumph at the 1983 World Cup when they beat the all-powerful double defending champions West Indies. The Indian team was led by Kapil Dev.
'83 is set to be released on 10 April 2020.
