Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao-starrer Mental Hai Kya has been postponed to 26 July. The film was earlier supposed to be released on 21 June. The change in release date means that the film will now clash with Hrithik Roshan-starrer Super 30, which is slated to release on the same day.
While there are reports about Ranaut wanting to change the date in order to compete with her long-time adversary Hrithik, the makers have strongly rubbished all such reports. “This is a call taken by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures considering better prospects for the movie at the box office and no other parties were involved,” said an official statement from the makers.
Explaining the decision further, the statement said, “The shift in the release date is a decision taken after the recommendations from the distributors, trade analysts and top research team, keeping in mind the releases a week before and after this date. We have been advised to shift the release of our movie to July 26, purely for the business prospects.”
The makers have also indicated that they don’t want any controversy considering the film is clashing with another film starring Hrithik. “On knowing that there is already a movie scheduled for a release on that date, we did it all in our purview to ensure that there will be no mud slinging and it will be a dignified release. We stand by assuring that to all other parties,” he said.
There are also reports that the makers of Super 30 are now planning to release the film in August, but there is no official confirmation so far.
