With biopics are all the rage, actor Sonu Sood has been signed on to play the role of former badminton champion, and present coach of the Indian national badminton team, Pullela Gopichand. The actor will play the role in the biopic on the life of PV Sindhu.

Speaking to daily Hindustan Times, the actor confirmed the news saying, "I will be playing the role of Pullela Gopichand in the PV Sindhu biopic. It’s an honour to be able to portray him on screen. He also knows about it. I have met him a couple of times. It makes me feel really proud that I’ll be portraying someone of his stature on screen."

The biopic has been in the making since 2016, and was expected to be Sood's second home production. This is also the second biopic on an Indian badminton player. There is another film, directed by Amole Gupte, on the life of Saina Nehwal.

Winner of the All England Championship in 2001, Gopichand went on to win the prestigious Dronacharya award as coach in 2009.

The biopic on Sindhu is being produced by Sood's home production, Shakti Sagar Productions.
