The shoot of Telugu remake of 96, which stars Sharwanand Myneni and Samantha Akkineni in lead roles, is progressing at breakneck speed. The latest update is that actor Gouri G Kishan, who played the younger version of Trisha in the original, has been roped in to reprise her own role for the Telugu version.
Gouri took to Instagram to post a picture from the sets of the Telugu remake. In the picture, she’s seen in a school uniform and smiling into a mirror which has Jaanu written on it. Her character is called Janaki aka Jaanu in the film.
In the Tamil version, which starred Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan in the titular roles, Gouri’s performance was widely appreciated by critics and audiences alike.
The makers haven’t revealed yet who will play the younger version of Sharwanand in the remake. In the original, Aadithya Bhaskar, son of veteran Tamil actor MS Bhaskar, played the teenage version of Vijay Sethupathi.
C Premkumar, who had directed the original, has been retained to helm the remake. The film had its launch in April and Samantha is expected to join the sets soon to begin shooting for her portion.
Being produced by Dil Raju, the team has so far completed two brief schedules in Mauritius and Kenya. They’re currently shooting the school portion which will be wrapped up in a couple of weeks.
96 is the story of two childhood sweethearts who meet 20 years later in a school reunion and the events that follow. The film was recently remade in Kannada as 96 and featured Ganesh and Bhavana in the lead roles.
