On 23 May, the day the election results came out, Kashyap shared a snapshot from his daughter's Instagram. The post detailed a vile threat issued by an online user against Kashyap's daughter.
Following the issue, the filmmaker has evidently registered an FIR against the alleged person who issued the threat.
Kashyap has been vocal in his opposition to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and has often been involved in online arguments. In his tweet detailing the threat on 23 May, the filmmaker had congratulated the newly elected prime minister Narendra Modi, while asking him if it was appropriate that his supporters go around threatening people online.
