Sandeep Kulkarni, Rajshri Deshpande to play Mahatma and Savitri Phule in Satyashodhak

Sandeep Kulkarni and Rajshri Deshpande have been roped in to play the roles of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule respectively in an upcoming Marathi movie titled Satyashodhak. The film is directed by Nilesh Jalamkar and produced under the banners of Samata Production and Kathakar Entertainment. 

Speaking about the subject in an official statement, Kulkarni said, “The thoughts of Mahatma Phule and Savitribai Phule were ahead of their time and so was their relationship. The film will try to portray the essence of their relationship. In a nutshell, the film will be based on their progressive thoughts, work and relationship.” 

This year, Kulkarni was seen in Marathi films, Krutant (2019) and Dombivli Return (2019) and the Hindi web-series, City Of Dreams (2019). 

Deshpande, on the other hand, is known for her roles in the web-series, Sacred Games (2018) and the Malayalam film S Durga (2018)

The shooting of Satyashodhak is 50 percent completed and the film will be released at the end of this year. 

Phule was a social reformer of the 19th century. He is known for his efforts towards women empowerment and the eradication of the caste system. He became a teacher for Savitribai Phule, who went onto became India’s first female teacher. The two of them founded India’s first school for girls in Pune in 1848.
