After much delay, South star Dhanush's international debut, The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir, directed by Ken Scott, will finally be shown in India on 21 June. The actor made the announcement on his Twitter handle.

The film will also be shown in North America, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Nepal. It was released in Paris, France, last May after its poster was unveiled at the Cannes film festival 2018. The Tamil version of the film is titled Pakkiri and will also be released on the same day.

The Indo-French production is based on the French bestseller, The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir Who Got Trapped In An Ikea Wardrobe, by Romain Puértolas.

Dhanush plays Ajatashatru Lavash Patel, a con man from Mumbai who charms his way to Paris with his mother's ashes and goes off on an incredible adventure to the UK, Spain, Italy and Libya to find his way back to Marie, a woman he first met in an IKEA store.

Produced by Saurabh Gupta, Gulzar Singh Chahal and Aditi Anand, The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir will go up against Kabir Singh (2019) starring Shahid Kapoor and the AR Rahman-scripted musical 99 Songs (2019), which are also being released on 21 June.
