The Siddharth Malhotra-led Vikram Batra biopic is now titled Shershaah. Dharma Productions announced the new title for the film, which will see Kiara Advani take on the leading role opposite Malhotra. The film will be directed by Vishnu Varadhan.

The title is a reference to the late Batra's nickname, Sher Shah, given to him by Pakistani soldiers for his bravery.

Batra was posthumously given India's highest award for valour and bravery, Param Vir Chakra, for his exploits in the 1999 Kargil war. A lieutenant with the 13 Jammu & Kashmir Rifles, Batra was involved in the capture of two peaks, Pt 5140 and Pt 4875, during the war. It was during the latter mission that he came under fire when trying to evacuate an injured jawan. Batra succumbed to his injury while helping to evacuate the injured.

The film will be directed by Vishnu Varadhan, who directed the Ajith Kumar-starrer, Billa (2007) and Arrambam (2013) in Tamil. This will mark his debut feature in Hindi cinema.

Shershaah is set to go on the floors soon, with Dharma Productions backing the film alongside Shabbir Boxwala, Apoorva Mehta, Ajay Shah and Himanshu Gandhi.
