Superstar Mahesh Babu’s Telugu action drama Maharshi, which happens to be his 25th film as leading man, has struck gold at the box office. The film collected a whopping Rs60 crore on Thursday, its first day worldwide, according to South trade analyst Trinath.

Trinath said this is the biggest opening for Mahesh Babu, surpassing his previous best opening day number of Rs55 crore, for Bharat Ane Nenu (2018).

From the Telugu-speaking states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana itself, the film grossed around Rs36 crore, according to the trade pundit.

On Friday, Mahesh Babu took to Twitter to thank fans for making his 25th film in a leading role a blockbuster.

“My journey so far has been very special. Thank you all for making my 25th my biggest! Thanking all my fans and the audiences for an outstanding response. My amazing team of Maharshi, my director and I, thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for this overwhelming success,” he tweeted.

In Maharshi, Mahesh Babu plays a self-made billionaire who undergoes a transformative journey when he sets out to help a friend and understands the true significance of success.

The film, which has already done pre-release business of over Rs150 crore, also stars Pooja Hegde, Allari Naresh and Jagapathi Babu in crucial roles.

According to Cinestaan.com’s review, Maharshi is a well-intentioned tale of a highly ambitious and successful self-made man who goes on a journey of self-discovery as he chooses people over success.

The film, which has been jointly produced by Dil Raju, Ashwini Dutt and PVP Cinema, has music by Devi Sri Prasad while KU Mohanan has cranked the camera.
