The film is the latest in a line of remakes that includes Ittefaq (1969) and Pati Patni Aur Woh (1978).
Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyoon Aata Hai (1980) was written and directed by Saeed Akhtar Mirza and also featured Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil in key roles. The film went on to win the Filmfare Critics award for Best Film that year.
The film is the story of an angry mechanic, Albert Pinto, who harbours the ideal that hard work trumps all. Only when his father's mill shuts down and he is threatened for protesting does Albert realize the truth and power of capitalism and the millowners.
The film formed the second part of Saeed Akhtar Mirza's existentialist trilogy of Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastan (1978) and Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro (1989).
Ranade, who has helmed the remake, had directed Jajantaram Mamantaram (2004), an Indianized mix of Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels and the story of the demon Bakasura from the Mahabharata.
