Box office: Badla collects Rs37.25 crore, Captain Marvel Rs56.25 crore in first week


Total Dhamaal, produced by Fox Star Studios, made Rs12 crore nett in its third week.

Last week's releases, Badla and Captain Marvel, both enjoyed a fine first week at the domestic box office. Director Sujoy Ghosh’s thriller, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu, made Rs37.25 crore nett at the box office, as reported by Boxofficeindia.com.

Produced by Azure Entertainment and Red Chillies Entertainment, the film largely received positive reviews and has been faring well based on word-of-mouth. After having a good opening weekend where it made Rs22.75 crore nett, Badla picked up Rs14.50 crore over the four days of the week.

Badla is the remake of Spanish film, Contratiempo (2016). Made at an estimated budget of Rs24 crore, Badla was released on 1,000 screens in India.

Hollywood film Captain Marvel enjoyed a good first week, collecting Rs56.25 crore nett in the first week. Distributed by Disney, Captain Marvel was released on about 2,000 screens in India.  

Captain Marvel had a good opening weekend with Rs40.35 crore nett, but the film couldn’t make substantial gains in the weekdays, earning Rs15.90 crore nett in four days.

Holdover releases Total Dhamaal and Luka Chuppi fared well too.

Total Dhamaal, produced by Fox Star Studios, made Rs12 crore nett in its third week. Made at an estimated budget of Rs105 crore, the multi-starrer madcap comedy directed by Indra Kumar has so far made Rs140.37 crore nett at the domestic box office.

Despite facing competition, Maddock Films' Luka Chuppi had a good second week with Rs18.25 crore nett. Made at an estimated budget of Rs25 crore, the film, starring Kriti Sanon and Kartik Aaryan, has so far made an impressive Rs71.35 crore nett at the domestic box office.
