Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy heads to the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne


The hit film, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, featured Singh as a Mumbai boy, Murad, who dreams of being a rapper.

Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar's fourth film, Gully Boy (2019), released earlier this year, is headed to Australia this August. The film, which had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival this February, will screen at the 10th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.

Akhtar is expected to present her film at the festival and will also participate in a conversation on Indian cinema on 10 August.

The filmmaker said in a statement, "It’s always great to see Indian cinema travelling and transcending across borders. As a filmmaker, it’s a very rewarding experience and more than that, it’s extremely thrilling to see celebration of Indian films."

Confirming her attendance at the Australian festival, she added, "I’m ecstatic to be invited and to be a part of IFFM 2019 in Melbourne which is a melting pot of cultures. There’s a huge Indian community in Australia and I’m looking forward to taking Gully Boy to Australia for a special screening and extending a discussion on cinema with Australian audiences."

The 10th edition will be held from 8 - 17 August in the Victorian capital.
