Cricket seems to be the buzz word, even in the Hindi film industry. Aside from Kabir Khan's '83 (2020), there is another film on the same topic that is set for release. Abhinay Deo's film, Doosra (2020), seems to revolve around another iconic moment in Indian cricket, and the first look from the film captures it perfectly.
A story of how cricket changed India, seen through the eyes of a young girl. Titled Doosra, the film's first look poster captures the Indian cricket team, led by Saurav Ganguly, at the Lord's balcony in the aftermath of their victory in the 2002 Natwest series in England. The moment is heralded by many experts as the moment that launched Indian cricket into the stratosphere.
The poster captures the moment Saurav Ganguly took off his India jersey and twirled it in the balcony, an act that was considered a thumbing of the nose at the establishment, while also marking India's rising attitude.
Director Abhinay Deo says, "Sourav Ganguly marked the end of an era, the end of submission. His one move at the NatWest final was so powerful and brought such a huge paradigm shift in our thinking. This film captures this through the life of a girl living in a patriarchal family suppressed by society and societal obligations. The poster of the film is only the first look. There are several more layers that audiences will understand once they watch the trailer."
A socio-fictional drama, Doosra, is shot on film. The project is divided into two parts, with one part focussing on the 1990s era, while the other marks the rise of India in the 21st century.
The original idea behind the film came from Chicago-based Executive Producers Masha and Rohan Sajdeh, which was then developed into a story and screenplay by India’s first advertising Grand Prix winner at Cannes - Agnello Dias.
Actor Plabita Borthakur and Ankur Vikal play the roles of principal characters in Doosra. The film is shot in collaboration with New York-based Stick Figure Productions and scheduled for a release in 2020.
