Pratim D Gupta’s upcoming film Shantilal O Projapoti Rohoshyo announces a new detective to Bengali cinema. The thriller genre has been one of the prime interests of Gupta who directed Shaheb Bibi Golam (2016).

One of the reasons to rejoice for the director is that he is launching his favourite actor Ritwick Chakraborty as a detective for the first time in this film. The film also features Paoli Dam as film star Nandita.

Actor-director Goutam Ghose, actress Chitrangada Shatarupa, who also debuted in Gupta’s last film Ahare Mon (2018), and Ambarish Bhattacharya will be seen playing crucial roles in the film. Film director, producer and lyricist Srijit Mukherji will also appear in a cameo role in it.

There is an upside down image of the city of Kolkata, superimposed by the image of a pen, from which ink oozes into the colours neon red and blue. In the film, Ritwick plays a journalist in an English newspaper. He gradually turns into a detective while pursuing a story involving Nandita.

The film was earlier titled as Ink; however, the director decided to change it to not confuse the audience of the language of the film.

“The logo captures the main subject of the film as to how a journalist, represented by the pen, evolves into a detective” commented Gupta. "It's like Shantilal the detective being born out of the churning pool of ink. It's a detective film set in the world of newspapers and cinema. Shantilal O Projapoti Rohoshyo is quite a rollercoaster ride.”

Shantilal O Projapoti Rohoshyo is due to be released this August.
