The official trailer of Mainak Bhaumik’s upcoming thriller Bornoporichoy is sleek and intriguing. Featuring Abir Chatterjee, Jisshu Sengupta and Priyanka Sarkar, Bornoporichoy is Bhaumik’s first attempt on a thriller.

Indraadip Dasgupta’s background score plays one of the most crucial parts in the story, besides being a stylish cinematic composition.

Chatterjee enacts a serial killer with the image of a Bhadralok. The trailer mentions that he has nothing to lose. Placed against him is Jisshu Sengupta, who plays a cop and has lost everything in his life. He dares that no one should know the ending of a story in the beginning because that takes away the joy of knowing the story. It is hard to understand what Sengupta’s character is attempting to imply through this sentence.

However, from the trailer, it appears that Chatterjee’s series of crimes pushes the higher authorities to employ Sengupta back, who was suspended from his job for reasons yet unknown. The crimes begin to puzzle him as the killer seems to possess a weird personality and he leaves a symbol in the place of his crime.

The killer is aware of Sengupta’s tactics and he also challenges him to hunt him down. Hence, the entire plot revolves around the culprit and the chaser, each trying to defeat the other in their respective schemes. While Chatterjee claims to be controlling the game, Sengupta dares him by manipulating each of his moves.

There are some bone-chilling crime scenes and the chase sequences appear to have been shot with finesse as well.

Priyanka Sarkar plays Sengupta’s wife in the film and she perhaps has a crucial role to play in Sengupta’s past.

While Chatterjee and Sengupta both have played Byomkesh Bakshi in different directorials, the two leading actors of Bengali cinema will be seen facing each other in a crime thriller that delves into the grammar of crime, as per the subtitle of the poster of the film suggests, for the first time.

Bornoporichoy is slated for release on 26 July.
