Popular for their off-screen friendship, actors Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth are joining hands for the first time for upcoming yet-untitled Tamil action-thriller, its makers announced on Friday, 21 June.

Currently dubbed VV 18, the film will be directed by Vikranth’s brother Sanjay and has screenplay by Vijay Sethupathi.

The film, which is slated to go on the floors from July, will explore football culture in north Chennai. Sujataa Entertainment is bankrolling the project, which will have music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Vikranth recently told Cinema Express.com about the project, “It will be a raw sports film, set against a unique backdrop. Both Vishnu Vishal and I have powerful characters in it. The fact that Vijay Sethupathi agreed to work on the screenplay speaks about the subject's potential.”

Sanjeev is a dear friend of Vijay Sethupathi and when he approached him with a role in the project, Sethupathi offered to extend support in the forming of writing the screenplay as he was already committed with multiple projects.

The rest of the cast and crew are yet to be finalised. Both Vishnu and Vikranth are said to have shed weight to fit into the shoes of their respective characters.

Vikranth, who was recently seen in Tamil heist thriller Suttu Pidikka Utharavu (2019), is gearing up for the release of Bakrid next.

Vishnu, on the other hand, has Prabhu Solomon’s forest thriller Kaadan in his kitty. The film also stars Rana Daggubati as one of the leads.
