Arjun Patiala trailer: Aims to be fully funny, and entertaining 'policewali picture'

The makers of the upcoming comedy Arjun Patiala (2019) loudly announce at the start of the trailer that this is Indian cinema's first 'policewali picture', and then quickly correct themselves, as we all know it's not.
Claiming to be the 245th 'policewali picture', Arjun Patiala stars Diljit Dosanjh as the hero, Kriti Sanon as the heroine, and Varun Sharma as the hero ka dost. The trailer cleverly positions itself as a silly, madcap comedy film, and that works in its favour.
Directed by Rohit Jugraj, Dosanjh and Sharma are police officers, while Sanon is a television reporter. How their paths cross in the film is anyone's guess, but there's plenty of entertainment along the way.
Dosanjh has wonderful comic timing and looks to win over audiences as the hapless officer in charge. Sharma is Onida Singh, named after the once coveted television brand. Meanwhile, Sanon plays to type as a go-getting journalist.
The trailer delightfully presents five villains these quirky characters go up against, actress Seema Pahwa being one of them. The narrator also funnily announces that the film has a lesser budget, hence production values might be lesser as well.
The whole tone of the film is self-deprecating and points to the treatment of the film as a spoof on police genre films in Indian cinema. It already looks promising.
Produced by Dinesh Vijan, Sandeep Leyzell, Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar, Arjun Patiala also stars Rohit Roy, Zeeshan Ayyub, Seema Pahwa and Sunny Leone.
The film is due to be released on 26 July.
