Veteran Telugu actor Mohan Babu is the latest addition to the cast of the upcoming Tamil film Soorarai Pottru, which is being directed by Sudha Kongara and stars Suriya.

The makers released a press statement announcing that Mohan Babu had been roped in for a pivotal role. He will join the set from Friday in Chandigarh where the film is currently being shot.

There are rumours that Mohan Babu, who was last seen in a brief role in the Savitri biopic Mahanati (2018), has been signed on to play the antagonist in Soorarai Pottru, which is based on the life of Captain GR Gopinath, founder of Air Deccan, India’s first low-cost airline.

The team is currently shooting some action sequences under the supervision of international stunt choreographer Greg Powell, who has worked on films such as The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) and Skyfall (2012).

Malayalam actress Aparna Balamurali, seen most recently in Rajiv Menon’s Sarvam Thaala Mayam (2019), has been finalized as the leading lady. The rest of the cast is yet to be revealed.

Well-known indie producer Guneet Monga, who recently won the Academy award for the short film Period. End Of Sentence, will be foraying into the Tamil market with this project. She is co-producing the project with Suriya’s production house, 2D Entertainment.

GV Prakash Kumar has already been signed on to compose the music for Soorarai Pottru. Prakash had recently revealed that he has completed composing songs for the film which will be simultaneously shot and released in Telugu.

Seen recently on screen playing a farmer turned politician in NGK, Suriya also has a project of director Siva of Veeram (2014) and Viswasam (2019) fame in his kitty.

The Selvaraghavan-directed NGK, which was released amid high expectations, failed to live up to the hype after opening to mixed reviews, despite registering strong opening day numbers.
