Not one film led by Shahid Kapoor had managed a collection of Rs70 crore nett at the box office until now. The highest was Rs65.99 crore nett by Prabhu Deva's R... Rajkumar (2013).
Now, the actor's latest, Kabir Singh, has not only taken him to his first three-figure mark but also brought him straight into the Rs200 crore club.
The film, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, has made a collection of Rs203.38 crore nett so far at the domestic box office despite poor reviews for its toxic and misogynistic content.
Also starring Kiara Advani, Kabir Singh collected Rs7.25 crore yesterday (3 July) as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com. There was a dip of exactly Rs1 crore from the film's Tuesday collection. But that hardly matters now, with the film’s second week collection a very impressive Rs70.25 crore nett with one day still to go.
As per our trade sources, the film was made on a budget of Rs60 crore. Plus, the film's box-office run isn't over yet. Kabir Singh has no major competition on the box office this Friday.
The only threat Kabir Singh faces is from the Hollywood movie Spider-Man: Far From Home, which is slated to be released this week. But then Kabir Singh has already made its mark as a blockbuster.
Meanwhile, Anubhav Sinha's Article 15, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, also continued its decent run at the domestic box office. The film made Rs3.50 crore yesterday, taking its overall total to Rs31 crore nett.
