After Neena Gupta spoke up about the lack of good roles for senior actresses in 2017 and asked for work on Instagram, actress Nafisa Ali has joined her in stating that she is seeking 'an elegant role to portray in Indian cinema'.
Nafisa Ali wrote, "I need to work to express my emotions. I will not be dictated to. May God give each of us the strength to follow our dreams."
I am Nafisa Ali Sodhi and I would like an elegant role to portray in Indian cinema . So looking for a perfect script as a senior actor , I need to work to express my emotions .I will not be dictated to. May God give each of us the strength to follow our dreams . The 62-year-old actress had made her film debut with Shyam Benegal's Junoon (1979) but took a long break thereafter for family, politics and social activism.
Last November, she revealed that she was suffering from ovarian cancer.
Nafisa Ali also reacted about young Kashmiri actress Zaira Wasim's decision to quit films, noting of her own long break from cinema, "There are many pressures young people are surrounded by... but if you have a choice, make you sure you think and make the right choice. Because I always look back and say why did I give in, why did I listen to my father, I should have listened to myself."
This is the new me ... older , grey and feeling positive . "I saw myself when I was 20 and I just felt for young actor Zaira Wasim . I thought let me put this message out that work is something which is your choice, it is your freedom, your independent right. There are many pressures young people are surrounded by... but if you have a choice, make you sure you think and make the right choice." "Because I always look back and say why did I give in, why did I listen to my father, I should have listened to myself “.
Neena Gupta, after she made her plea for work, has acted in the hit films Veere Di Wedding (2018) and Mulk (2018) and the blockbuster Badhaai Ho (2018), for which she even won the Filmfare Critics award for Best Actress. She also has the lead role in Vikas Khanna's The Last Color, and key roles in Panga (2020) and Sooryavanshi (2020). With any luck, Nafisa Ali's career revival could be on the cards.
