Pankaj Tripathi had a brief appearance in the first season of Sacred Games. But the actor has a prominent role in the second season of the show which will start streaming from 15 August on Netflix. He plays a mysterious spiritual giant called Guru ji.
According to an official note from Tripathi's publicist his character in the series is inspired from the late spiritual guru Acharya Rajneesh, famously known as Osho.
“It is believed that there are meant to be several references to Osho and his way of life and practices that will be depicted in the role of Guruji, that is played by Pankaj in the series.”
Born as Chandra Mohan Jain in 1931, Rajneesh was a spiritual leader, philosopher and the leader of the Rajneesh Movement. He was also embroiled in controversies because of his ideologies. His ideologies also attracted film personalities like Mahesh Bhatt and Vinod Khanna to his ashram.
The first season of Sacred Games starred Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte, Jeetandra Joshi, Neeraj Kabi, Kubra Sait and Rajshri Deshpande. The second season will see the addition of Ranvir Shorey and Kalki Koechlin.
