Well known Hindi film singer Amaal Mallik has been selected as the official performer at the awards night of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne [IFFM] scheduled to take place on 8 August.

He will be performing with the reputed Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. The likes of Elton John and AR Rahman have previously performed with the orchestra.

Mallik has sung in a number of well-known films like Roy (2015), Airlift (2016), Kapoor & Sons (2016), Baaghi (2016), Sarbjit (2016), MS Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016), Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017), Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018), among others.

“Amaal will be performing to a medley of his most popular compositions and renditions at the iconic Palais Theatre,” said an official note from the festival's publicists.

Sharing his excitement, Mallik said in an official statement, “It’s nothing short of an honour for me to be collaborating with them. It’s a big moment and I want to deliver my very best for the evening. I have been short listing songs for the medley. There will be a few expected and some very unexpected choices from my end. I will spend a good few days to prepare for them before meeting the team in Melbourne.”

Festival director Mitu Bhowmick said in a statement, “Given Amaal’s popularity with every section of the audience, he was pretty much an obvious choice for us. It will be a gala evening filled with music that truly celebrates cinema from India. Given that it’s Melbourne, an Aussie twist had to be in order.”

The IIFM will be held this year from 8-17 August. Akshay Kumar’s keenly awaited Mission Mangal will have its Australian premiere at the festival.
