After Irrfan Khan and Sonali Bendre, Rishi Kapoor is all set to become the next Hindi film celebrity to win the battle against cancer. The veteran actor has been undergoing treatment since 2018 in New York. However, until now Kapoor and his family kept the illness and the treatment under wraps. The actor now spoke about his illness for the very first time.

Speaking about how grateful he is for everyone’s support, he told tabloid Mumbai Mirror, “Thanks to the prayers and good wishes of my family, friends and fans, I am perfect now. The cancer is in remission, but I am still under treatment.”

Kapoor also threw more light on his treatment. “The problem is not the treatment but the reaction time. There is a six-week gap between one treatment and the next when all you can do is eat, shop, watch movies, live a normal life which I would rather do at home than here in New York,” he added.

Kapoor’s last film was Leena Yadav’s Rajma Chawal, which released on Netflix last year. The same year he was also seen in 102 Not Out (2018) and Mulk (2018) while making a cameo in Nandita Das’s Manto (2018).

While speaking about his return, the actor said that he has to be there for a total of 11 months and will probably return by August end. “It’s been a difficult time, very taxing, but Neetu (wife), and my children (Ranbir and Riddhima) have been very supportive. I will plan my return five-six weeks after my last treatment. It is called consolidation or pushback, whereby I will have to undergo chemotherapy to ensure that the ailment does not return,” he informed.
