With politics taking a backseat, Kamal Haasan has returned to filmmaking. The actor took to social media to make the announcement of restarting his magnum opus, Thalaivan Irukkindraan. The film also marks the reunion of AR Rahman with the actor-filmmaker.

It was AR Rahman who took to Twitter to make the announcement first. He wrote 'Happy and excited to collaborate with the one and only @ikamalhaasan himself on a magnum opus... Watch this space for more'

Haasan replied with a thanks, adding that the film is still in development.

The film has been in the works for quite some time, owing to the launch of Haasan's political party. It was first announced in 2015 as a bilingual that revolved around politics, finance and the underworld. But the film never went on the floors.

In addition to Thalaivan Irukkindraan, Haasan is also hosting Bigg Boss Tamil 3. He is also set to begin work on Shankar's Indian 2, which was left in limbo after differences erupted between director Shankar and Lyca Productions. The differences have now been sorted out. Haasan will play the lead opposite Aishwarya Rajesh and Priya Bhavani Shankar in the film.

The actor's Sabaash Naidu, a spinoff from his Dasavatharam (2008), has reportedly been put on the backburner. The film was being produced by Lyca Productions, who have now decided to back Thalaivan Irukkindraan.
