Box office: Article 15 has a consistent second week, Malaal continues to falter

The first week collections for Malaal (2019) stand at Rs2.75 crore, according to the numbers shared by Boxofficeindia.com.

The love story, which launched star kids Meezaan Jaaferi and Sharmin Segal, could not connect with audiences outside Maharashtra. The film, directed by Mangesh Hadawale, was set in Mumbai and featured a Maharashtrain boy falling for a girl from north India.

Meanwhile, Anubhav Sinha’s Article 15 (2019) continued its consistent run earning Rs18 crore in its second week, bringing its second week total to Rs52 crore. The film was likely hit by the cricket World Cup semi-finals and might pick up more viewers in its third week due to strong word-of-mouth.

The movie of the year, Kabir Singh (2019), rolled on and earned Rs35.50 crore in its third week and currently stands at nearly Rs247 crore. Its percentage in the third week has gone down to 54% but the divisive Sandeep Reddy Vanga film remains the highest nett grosser in Hindi cinema this year.

Finally, Hollywood film Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) brought in Rs58.75 crore in its first week. The superhero-film is on its way to becoming the highest earning Spider-Man film. The previous film, Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) earned Rs60 crore during its run.
