This year, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) will commemorate filmmaker Karan Johar's 20 years in Hindi cinema. He will be flying to the Australian city to be a part of the celebration, which will also include the screening of his debut film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998).
“As a part of the schedule the festival will host a special screening of his debut project, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and will also be doing a special in conversation with the director himself in presence of hundreds of his fans from across Australia,” said an official statement from the publicist of the festival.
Reacting on the event, Johar said in an official statement, “I am excited to be celebrating this landmark year in my professional life at IFFM. It’s been a very rewarding 20 years of a journey and time well spent telling stories and having the freedom to be a storyteller.”
The filmmaker said that celebrating at IIFM means a lot to him. “Filmmaking is my passion and the deep rooted love I have for cinema and being here in this time to be completing two whole decades is very gratifying. I have been to the festival before and I have loved being there. I am looking forward to another opportunity to celebrate Indian cinema in the land down under,” he said.
This year the IIFM will take place from 8-17 August.
Johar’s next directorial is Takht, which is all set to be released on Diwali 2020.
