The poster of Soumik Sen’s Mahalaya is out. The poster, originally conceived by Prasenjit Chatterjee, the founder of Nideas Creations and Productions, features Subhasish Mukherjee and Jisshu Sengupta, who play the iconic Birendra Krishna Bhadra and Uttam Kumar in the film.
The film tells the story of the public outrage that broke out in 1976 when All India Radio (AIR) decided to replace Bhadra with Uttam Kumar for Mahisashurmardini — the longest running broadcasting programme in the history of AIR.
The poster is designed in the form of a newspaper where the headline states that Bengal is hostile due to the replacement of Bhadra with Uttam Kumar.
The poster also lends a period film touch with its weathered look featuring the two artistes. Also, the long article in the background hints at the intensity of the situation that surfaced due to the decision taken by AIR.
In an interview with The Times Of India, Sen said, “The poster idea was by Bumba Da, and I am getting a lot of feedback from it as it is generating a lot of nostalgia among the audience.”
Speaking about the cast, he also commented, “I feel Subhashish Da should have got meaty roles after Herbert but sadly not many scripts or roles are written keeping them in mind. It was lovely working with Subhashish Da and Jishu.”
