Producer Ekta Kapoor has followed in the footsteps of brother Tusshar and become a single parent to a baby boy through surrogacy.
According to a report in the tabloid Mumbai Mirror, the baby was born on 27 January. The report also mentions that the baby is fine and will be brought home soon. Ekta, however, has not made any announcement so far.
Ekta produces television serials and films movies under her banner, Balaji Telefilms and Balaji Motion Pictures. Last year she produced the films Veere Di Wedding and Laila Majnu. Her upcoming film is Mental Hai Kya, starring Rajkummar Rao and Kangana Ranaut.
Her brother Tusshar became a single father through surrogacy in 2017. Speaking about his decision, he had told The Indian Express, “I was thinking about it for some time before I finally had the baby because I was running out of time. I am not married yet. I may or may not in the future. I felt time was running out fast and I couldn’t wait to have a family, have a child. That’s something I won’t be able to do as I grow older.”
The Kapoors aren’t the only ones to become single parents through surrogacy in the Hindi film industry. Well-known filmmaker and producer Karan Johar became a single father to Yash and Roohi in 2017.
