Actress Gurbani Gill’s life has gone through a complete 180-degree change within a year. In 2017, Gill was studying at university in USA, with a major in science. Originally from the state of Washington, she knew she wanted to give acting a try and left to come to Mumbai.

She came to visit Mumbai for three months and auditioned for the title role in Dear Molly (2019). Directed by Gajendra Ahire, the film is about a daughter’s journey to find her missing father in Sweden.

Gill said the she could relate to Molly, her character, personally.

“Just like her I left my parents behind and stepped out of my comfort zone to come to India. I strongly understood Molly’s void of not having her family with her and moving to a new country like Sweden,” she said.

Ahire’s film was shot extensively in Stockholm and other locations in Sweden. Gill stars with other well-known artistes from the Marathi industry including Alok Rajwade, Mrinmayee Godbole and Ashwini Giri. Swedish artistes Lia Boysen and Chris Holmgren are also part of the cast.

“It was a great experience, I first met everyone along with Praveen sir [producer Nischol] and I automatically felt so comfortable. We spent a lot of time talking about our different cultures, about Sweden, the different methods of acting and genres. As long as the environment is good, working becomes easy, fun and creatively fulfilling,” the newcomer said.

Produced by Praveen Nischol and Ratan Jain, Dear Molly is due to be released in early 2019.
