In an official statement, producers Bhushan Kumar and Juno Chopra have defended the decision to recast for the role of Taapsee Pannu's character in Mudassar Aziz's remake of BR Chopra's Pati Patni Aur Woh (1978).
The actress had earlier spoken to the tabloid Mumbai Mirror complaining that she wasn't notified about being replaced in the film.
In their official statement, producers Bhushan Kumar and Chopra said, "When a script is locked, every director or producer approaches actors for the casting of the film. It is a basic protocol followed by almost all filmmakers. Similarly, for our upcoming project, Pati Patni Aur Woh, we reached out to many actors who we thought could be our potential protagonists. The versatile actress Taapsee Pannu was one of the many actresses we had approached for one of the leading ladies in the film."
Pannu had claimed that she had marked out dates for the film, leading to schedule problems with other filmmakers.
However, Bhushan Kumar and Chopra's statement contradicted Pannu's claim. The statement read, "However, we as producers have never made any commitment to her. We would like to clarify that our casting was purely done on the basis of who suited the characters to the tee."
The producers added that they would like to work with Pannu in the future. "Taapsee is an extremely talented actress and we would love to work with her in future. We will soon make the official announcement for the final cast of Pati Patni Aur Woh."
The film will be directed by Aziz and co-produced by T-Series and BR Films.
