There is simply no stopping Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019). After crossing the Rs200 crore mark on Thursday, the Vicky Kaushal-starrer has set a record for highest fifth Friday collection for any Hindi film.
The action thriller directed by Aditya Dhar earned Rs2.25 crore nett at the box office yesterday, its fifth Friday in the theatres, as reported by BoxOfficeIndia.com.
In so doing, Uri broke the record set earlier by the Hindi dubbed version of Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017) by about Rs50 lakh. SS Rajamouli's blockbuster fantasy had made Rs1.75 crore nett on its fifth Friday.
The RSVP-produced Uri will now to look beat the record of Baahubali: The Conclusion (Hindi) by surpassing Rs8.50 crore nett on the fifth weekend. And Uri might well do it, because no major Hindi film was released on Friday, 8 February.
There are a host of releases held over from 1 February, all of them pretty disappointing at the turnstiles. Hollywood release Alita: Battle Angel (2019), meanwhile, bagged just about Rs1 crore nett on its opening day.
Nargis Fakhri and Sachiin Joshi’s horror film Amavas (2019) also opened poorly, bagging just Rs70 lakh nett.
Holdover release Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga (2019) sank further, making just Rs35 lakh on its second Friday. Produced by Fox Star Studios, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga has so far made just Rs16.85 crore nett at the box office. Given its estimated budget of Rs35 crore, the film, released on 1,200 screens across India, looks certain to be a flop.
Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi, meanwhile, made Rs1.25 crore nett on its third Friday to take its overall India business to Rs78.81 crore nett. With an estimated budget in excess of Rs100 core, Manikarnika, which was released on 3,000 screens across the country, also appears set to be a flop.
Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s Gully Boy is the big release due next Thursday, Valentine's Day, and that is when Uri may finally run out of steam. But the film's makers will hope to cash in on its the fifth weekend before that. Made on an estimated budget of Rs28 crore, Uri was released on 2,200 screens across India.
