Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has assured that the sequel to Thackeray (2018), the biopic on Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray, is on. “The sequel will definitely come,” he said, when asked about the status of the film during an interaction for his upcoming film, Photograph.
When asked when it will go on the floors, the actor said, “I will shoot for it once I get free from other projects.”
Directed by Abhijit Panse, Thackeray ended with the words ‘To be continued’ on the screen. During the time of the release, producer and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut had said in an interview that the film will have a sequel. But there was no clarity on when it would be made.
Siddiqui believes playing Bal Thackeray was a once in a lifetime opportunity. “An actor has so many possibilities to showcase his skills in such roles. You are fortunate and lucky to get such a character,” he said.
“You don’t get a chance to use such skills while playing those typical hero and villain characters. I have taken five years of acting training and have many years of experience in theatre. All that I learnt then can be utilized while playing this character,” he added.
Thackeray was a bilingual released in Marathi and Hindi. The film saw Amrita Rao essay the character of the protagonist’s wife Meenatai Thackeray.
