After weeks of speculation that the second part of the NTR biopic might never find a theatrical release following the debacle of the first part; the film’s makers on Tuesday announced that the second part, titled NTR Mahanayakudu, will be released on 22 February.

NTR Mahanayakudu will track NTR’s journey as a politician and his term as CM of Andhra Pradesh.

Apparently, Nandamuri Balakrishna and his team to have decided to settle 25% of the losses incurred from releasing the first part. This move has enabled a smooth release of the second part which was most likely to be postponed to March until a few days ago.

Despite taking a solid start at the box office on its opening day with Rs21 crore gross worldwide, NTR Kathanayakudu couldn’t stay afloat at the ticket window. The film is said to have suffered losses worth over 50% of investment for the distributors.

Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, Kathanayakudu chronicles the rise of NTR as one of the doyens of Telugu cinema from a very humble beginning. Nandamuri Balakrishna essayed the role of his late father in this biopic, which was released amid high expectations, but failed to live up to the hype.

The film featured a galaxy of stars. While Rana Daggubati plays the role of Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Sumanth Akkineni essays the role of his late grandfather Akkineni Nageswara Rao. Rakul Preet, Shriya Saran, Shalini Pandey and Prakash Raj among others also play key roles.

The second part will be high on politics and drama. It will focus on the relationship between NTR and his son-in-law Naidu, played by Daggubati.
