The trailer of Pavel’s upcoming film Asur (2020) hints at the content that goes beyond paying homage to the pioneering artiste Ramkinkar Baij. Featuring Jeet as the protagonist, the film also stars Abir Chatterjee and Nusrat Jahan, who play interesting characters, adding to the narrative in the film.
The trailer of the film was launched on 30 November, on the occasion of actor Jeet’s 41st birthday. In the trailer, Jeet's look is different from all of the avatars he has portrayed so far. However, throughout the trailer, he hardly plays with the new look, and his dialogue delivery is monotonous too.
Besides the struggle of an artist, the film also attempts to explore the theme of friendships and the commercial benefits of art. In Asur, Jeet’s character is Kigan, a student of Kala Bhavan in Biswa Bharati, along with his friend Aditi (Jahan). Chatterjee plays Bodhi, a student of English in the film, and the entire plot revolves around their equation, that oscillates between friendship and enmity.
While Kigan attempts to challenge tradition with his original artwork, he faces the challenge of the opposition. Bodhi, who masquerades as his friend, cannot bear to see Kigan emerge as victorious; whereas, Aditi puts her best effort in maintaining peace between the two. Aditi is aware of Kigan’s eccentric nature; however, she has trust in his artform. Bodhi, on the other hand, makes sure to take all the measures to stop Kigan from creating his original artwork.
The trailer appears a bit clumsy, as it attempts to infuse too many elements as well as sketch the outline of the characters. In that attempt, the trailer has revealed a lot of story, leaving almost nothing for the audience to anticipate regarding the characters.
Asur is slated for release on 3 January 2020. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
