After Farzand (2018) and Fatteshikast (2019), director Digpal Lanjekar’s third film will also be dealing with Maratha history. This time he has brought the story of Bajiprabhu Deshpande in the film titled Jungjauhar (2020).
The makers made the announcement of the film by sharing its title poster. It has the image of a bloody sword.
Deshpande was a commander in Chhatrapati Shivaji’s army. Jungjauhar will look back at Deshpande’s sacrifice for his beloved king. The film will feature the incident of 1660 when Shivaji was trapped inside the fort of Panhala by Adilshahi army. The king somehow escaped and was on his way to the fort of Vishalgadh.
Deshpande asked Shivaji to move ahead and he decided to stay back to counter any obstacles. Deshpande, his brother Fulaji and the Bandal army battled a enormous number of enemy soldiers and ensured that Shivaji reaches Vishalgadh. The two brothers sacrificed their lives in the process.
Interestingly, director Abhijeet Deshpande is also making a film on the same subject titled Paavan Khind. It will be released on Diwali 2020. This will be his second movie after the successful Ani... Dr Kashinath Ghanekar (2018).
The makers of Jungjauhar have said in an official statement that they have carried out extensive research from written material available and also by speaking with the ancestors of the Marathas.
The cast of Jungjauhar is not revealed yet. Chinmay Mandlekar played Shivaji in Farzand and Fatteshikast. It will be interesting to see if he will reprise the role for the third time.
Jungjauhar will be released in June 2020.
