The channel has not said why the longstanding host of the series had to step down. But the decision came just a day after his presence at a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act.
'A very small price to pay,' says actor Sushant Singh after stepping down from Savdhaan India show
Mumbai - 17 Dec 2019 18:30 IST
Actor Sushant Singh, the host of Savdhaan India, a television series that documents crimes across the country, has announced the end of his stint with the show on the Star TV network.
While there has been no word from the actor or from the Star TV network on the reason for his stepping down, Sushant Singh's tweet hinted that the decision was prompted by his participation in a protest in Mumbai against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the brutal police action against students of the Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi.
The actor tweeted a cryptic "And, my stint with Savdhaan India has ended" early on Tuesday.
And, my stint with Savdhaan India has ended.— सुशांत सिंह sushant singh سوشانت سنگھ (@sushant_says) December 16, 2019
Sushant Singh, who has been part of political films like Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar (2000) and The Legend Of Bhagat Singh (2002), was among several Hindi film personalities who spoke up against the CAA. Sushant Singh, who is general secretary of the Cine and TV Artistes Association (CINTAA), participated in a protest at the Mumbai university to show his solidarity with the Jamia students.
Good to see @sushant_says come out in support. Also, the protesting students kept the focus on #CAA and police excesses in #Jamia and #AMU. A speaker trying to make it Cong vs BJP was asked not to venture there pic.twitter.com/gZM2UW6Pn3— Vishakh Rathi (@vishakhrathi) December 16, 2019
The announcement of Sushant Singh's departure from the show, a day after his appearance at the protest, raised several questions. These were fuelled further by the actor's crisp answer to a question on his timeline.
When a supporter asked if his removal was the "price for speaking the truth", Sushant Singh simply said, "A very small price."
A very small price my friend. भगत सिंह, सुखदेव और राजगुरु को जवाब कैसे देंगें?— सुशांत सिंह sushant singh سوشانت سنگھ (@sushant_says) December 16, 2019
