As suggested by the visuals, the trailer of Srijit Mukherji’s upcoming thriller Dwitiyo Purush (2020) is not for the faint-hearted. There is a lot of violence and blood in it and the characters are pushed towards an extreme psychological gruelling by the chaotic circumstances around them.

In Dwitiyo Purush, a sequel to Baishe Srabon (2011), Mukherji seems to have taken the crime plot to a different degree with a much more complex narrative. The trailer begins with a narration of a poem by Prosenjit Chatterjee, who played the antagonist in the prequel. There is also a reference to the crime pattern adopted in Baishe Srabon, as the trailer features actor Rwitobroto Mukherjee engaging in gory murders.

Mukherjee’s violent avatar comes as a surprise in the trailer as the young actor has been mostly seen as teenage characters in his previous films. The trailer then also introduces another antagonist Khoka, played by Anirban Bhattacharya, who is becoming irreplaceable in Mukherji’s films.

The trailer doesn’t reveal connection between these two characters, while it is apparent that they are turning the life of inspector Abhijit Pakrashi (Parambrata Chatterjee) into a living hell. In this sequel, Pakrashi is also joined by a junior inspector, enacted by Gaurav Chakravarty.

Mukherji has also cleverly woven the narrative of Pakrashi and his love interest Amrita’s (Raima Sen) complex romantic relationship with the crime scenario. It is quite evident that both these aspects take a toll on Pakrashi’s psyche.

The trailer is eventful and it also manages to not disclose much about the plot. While all seem to be in a chaotic state of mind, only Bhattacharya’s calm countenance amidst bloodshed sends chill down the spine. The fact that his character remains untouched by all the hostilities, gives out a hint that Mukherji might be planning for another sequel of this thriller.

Dwitiyo Purush is slated for release in January 2020. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
