Two young siblings have a strong bond which is broken when the brother, the younger of the two, is whisked away in the dead of night into what seems like a child-trafficking ring. Filmmaker Brahmanand Singh's upcoming movie takes us behind the horrors of this modern-day crime through two small protagonists.
Jhalki, the older sister played by Aarti Jha, takes it upon herself to find her brother (Goraksha Sakpal) from wherever he has been taken. Boman Irani, Sanjay Suri, Divya Dutta, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Govind Namdev are the adults who either aid or hinder the little girl's quest.
Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi also makes a special appearance (in the film, not the teaser) to shed light on this pertinent issue which continues to plague many countries. Jhalki has been written by Brahmanand Singh, Tanvi Jain and Kamlesh Kunti Singh. The director and Prakash Jha have based the story on true events.
The promising drama, co-directed by Jain, is due to be released in theatres on 27 September.
