Box office: Mission Mangal has good second Monday, Batla House fares decently


The two Independence Day releases will face stiff competition this weekend from the big-budget bilingual thriller Saaho, starring Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor.

Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan's Mission Mangal had a good second Monday at the domestic box office. The film made Rs3.75 crore nett on the day, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com. Directed by Jagan Shakti, Mission Mangal is based on India’s successful launch of the Mars orbiter mission (MOM). 

The film’s grand total now stands at an impressive Rs163.75 crore nett, making it Akshay Kumar's highest-grossing Hindi film. His previous biggest film was Kesari (2019), which made Rs151.87 crore nett in lifetime business at the domestic box office.

As per trade sources, Mission Mangal was made at a cost of around Rs100 crore.

Meanwhile, the John Abraham-starrer Batla House also had a decent second Monday, collecting Rs2 crore nett. Directed by Nikkhil Advani and also starring Mrunal Thakur, the film has so far made a decent Rs77.75 crore nett. The cost of production of the film based on the controversial Batla House encounter of 2008 is around Rs60 crore.

The performance of both Mission Mangal and Batla House in the remaining days of this week will likely determine their final verdict at the box office as they face stiff competition this weekend in the form of the bilingual thriller Saaho, starring Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor. It will be interesting to see how many screens the two Independence Day films will be left with after Saaho's release.
