Bombay Rose trailer: Beautifully animated love story set in Mumbai

Gitanjali Rao's Bombay Rose is set to become the first Indian animated feature to open Critics’ Week at the Venice International Film Festival at the end of the month. The feature's trailer shows the tumultuous love story between a flower seller, Kamla, and a small-time gangster, Salim.

The beautifully animated trailer shows all the hustle and bustle of a busy, overcrowded Mumbai. Even in the crowds, Salim spots Kamla and leaves her a single rose. Thus begins their doomed love story as circumstances force them apart.

Bombay Rose showcases the hopes and dreams of these migrants who may or may not have their happy endings. The film’s colour palette goes from the bright to the muted depending on the emotions being displayed on screen.

Produced by Anand Mahindra and Rohit Khattar, Bombay Rose has been written, designed and directed by Gitanjali Rao. A co-production of Film d’Ici, the animated feature was delivered by Mumbai’s Paperboat Animation Studios.

Bombay Rose also features the voices of Anurag Kashyap and Makarand Deshpande.

After Venice, the feature film will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in the contemporary world cinema section.
