The final scene from the trailer of Abhishek Varman’s Kalank (2019) has stood out for nostalgic reasons. In the scene, Varun Dhawan's character Zafar is trying to get into a moving train. Alia Bhatt's Roop, who is already on the train, puts out her hand to help him. Roop is being pulled from inside the train by Aditya Roy Kapur's character Dev.

The scene instantly brought back memories of the iconic train scene between Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995).

During the trailer launch of the movie when Dhawan was asked if the scene in Kalank was inspired from DDLJ, he was quick to say, “No, not at all. It is definitely not inspired from it and it has no relation with it.” Bhatt also added, “It is a significant scene and was difficult. It was no recreation, nothing [of the DDLJ scene].”

Recalling the experience of shooting the scene, Dhawan said, “It was one of the most difficult scenes to shoot for me, Alia and Aditya. We spent a lot of time shooting that scene. Alia doesn’t want me to say more about the scene. There are a lot of twists and turns in the story which we want you all to enjoy. Else you will get to know now itself.”

Dhawan also agreed that the trailer of Kalank gave away a lot of the story. “Obviously, a lot of the story is revealed in this [trailer] but there are a lot of things you don’t know about the film yet,” he said.
