While she might have earned plaudits for her role as the middle-aged woman going through an unexpected pregnancy in Badhaai Ho (2018), actress Neena Gupta has chosen a darker subject for her next film. The actress will be seen alongside Sanjay Mishra in the thriller, Gwalior.

Written and directed by the duo of Jaspal Singh Sandhu and Rajiv Barnwal, the film will see Gupta play a housewife struggling to manage a cash crunch in her household.

Speaking to the Mumbai Mirror tabloid newspaper, the actress said, "It is an interesting concept. I play Manju Mishra, a housewife, and the story narrates how an uneducated woman who is perceived as weak handles a situation that involves a cash crunch."

The film will also see Manav Vij and Sumit Gulati in pivotal roles.

The cast and crew are currently filming the project in Gwalior, and are also expected to shoot in Varanasi over a period of three days.

Gupta won the Best Actress (Critics) award at the Filmfare awards earlier this year for her role in Badhaai Ho.
