Directed by Makarand Mane, the film sees Shubhankar Tawade for the first time in a lead role.

After watching the trailer of director Makarand Mane’s Kaagar, it seems that the teaser took the audience for a ride. The teaser gave an idea that Rinku Rajguru’s character might be a cunning and manipulative to-be politician. The trailer, however, paints a different picture.
The film tells the story of Yuvraj (Shubhankar Tawade) and his girlfriend Rani (Rajguru). They are all set to marry. Despite being an engineer, Yuvraj wants to join politics in order to work for the welfare of the farmers in his village.
This brings him face-to-face with some evil forces in politics and he gets beaten up. This compels Rani to fight on his behalf and take the negative forces head-on. How successful will she be?
Kaagar appears to be an interesting political drama with a dose of romance. The story looks layered and the characters well-sketched. The only problem with the trailer, one which seems to be common these days, is that it reveals a lot.
Rajguru looks in control while playing another strong-headed village girl after her astonishing debut Sairat (2016). Memories of her character in the Nagraj Manjule movie come rushing back. Tawade appears promising in his first lead role. He had played a supporting character in Sameer Vidwans’ Double Seat (2015).
Also starring Shashank Shende, Kaagar will be out in theatres on 26 April.
